Introductions

I’m Chase, a.k.a. “Wheffle”. I am the main developer and creator of Goldshoe Games. Currently I do the vast majority of the programming, game design, sound, and art (for better or worse) for our projects. I also dabble in music, but we have a guy for when we need big guns. I work as a .NET software engineer by day and as a hobbyist indie game creator by night.

It can be tough staying motivated as a mostly solo developer, so I thought I’d start chronicling the adventures I have as an outlet. I’m planning on writing about some of the tough issues I run into during development or game design, how (or if) they get solved, and maybe some tech-minded someone will find something interesting one day. I’ll also write about general project news and updates.

I am by no means a game design expert and have no academic training, but I try to read up when I can (Advanced Game Design by Michael Sellers has been pretty influential for me) and I like to practice a lot. I have participated a fair bit in the Ludum Dare game jam, feel free to check out my projects there. So far all of Goldshoe’s projects have stemmed from Ludum Dare entries, so that’s interesting.

Goldshoe Games’ other contributors are:

  • Sam, who makes incredible music
  • Eric, a great ideas-bouncer and play tester, as well as a sometimes programming contributor
  • Brandon, who helps out a lot with game system design

So that’s a bit of background. I’ll try to target something interesting for each post moving forward, so hopefully they won’t always be this bland.
